Deputy President William Ruto is free to campaign
after he was cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to
vie for presidency in the August 9th general election.
William Ruto became the fourth presidential candidate to be cleared after Agano Party aspirant David Mwaure Waihiga was given the go ahead Saturday morning.
Ruto was presented with a certificate by the IEBC
Chairman Wafula Chebukati who is the National Returning Officer for
Presidential election after he presented his credentials at the Bomas of Kenya.
Mr Chebukati urged the DP William ruto to comply with
Election Code of Conduct following his registration as a Presidential
candidate.
He was accompanied by his running mate, Mathira MP Hon
Rigathi Gachagua.
While expressing his gratitude for being cleared, Ruto
reaffirmed his confidence in the capacity of the IEBC to conduct credible
elections.
The deputy president also called on his supporters to
do everything they can to protect the elections from violence and unnecessary
sideshows.
On the issue of media coverage, Ruto appealed to the
media to exercise fairness in their coverage.
At the same time, the DP appointed Tharaka Nithi
Senator Kithure Kindiki as his chief agent during the August 9 polls.
Senator Kithure Kindiki will serve alongside Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok
and UDA secretary general Veronica Maina.
